Open Committee and Working Group Positions
The IH Section is always looking for interested members who want to get more involved in its activities throughout the year. We are eager to connect members with committees and working groups that interest them! Volunteers are encouraged to collaborate on multiple initiatives, and self-starters will find that there is a place for them in just about any aspect of what we do. Below you will find a summary of open positions or roles that our committees and working groups are seeking to fill. If you are interested in getting involved or learning more, please reach out to the committee/working group chair.
The IH Student Committee is looking for members to join their core leadership group!
Available Board Opportunities and Responsibilities:
- Secretary: Record and maintain the minutes of all committee meetings; Assist the committee’s co-chairs as needed.
- Membership Outreach: Oversee maintenance of membership lists; Collaborate with Communication Lead to reach new members.
- Communications Lead: Create and maintain all committee’s communications, including social media, newsletters, blogs, and communications with the APHA IH section.
We are interested in having dedicated new members to join our core leadership group. To be considered, we ask that you be willing to make a year-long commitment. Contributions generally require about five hours a month, and that you can join our monthly conference call. Please note that you must be a member of APHA to be considered for a leadership role.

- how you can contribute to the student committee

The Advocacy/Policy Committee is seeking members to assist with drafting Section policy proposals and contribute to goals and strategies to engage Section members in global health advocacy work. Please contact Rania Milleron Cruz for more information.
The Program Committee is seeking volunteers for the following positions:
- Reviewers to assess and score abstract submissions for the Annual Meeting; and
- Moderators who are attending the Annual Meeting to moderate oral and invited sessions.

The Communications Committee is seeking volunteers for the following positions:
SOCIAL MEDIA ASSOCIATES
- Develops original written and visual content for social media
- Drafts and schedules original or forwarded content to go out through the Hootsuite account (i.e. to the Twitter account) or post directly to social media channels.
- Contributes an original blog article once every three months to the IH Section blog
- Participates in Social Media Subcommittee meetings
- Contributes to the publishing of the quarterly section newsletter – Section Connection
- Assists with special projects as needed and available
- Represents the Social Media Subcommittee on leadership calls and at the APHA annual meeting as needed
Approximately 1 hour per week, 6 month minimum commitment.

GUEST CONTRIBUTORS FOR IH CONNECT
Guest contributors write up original analysis, commentary, or education on global health topics for our blog. Guest contributors are welcome to write up a one time article or a series of articles. We do not accept applications from contributors wanting to promote a specific product, brand, or organization.

REGULAR CONTRIBUTORS FOR IH CONNECT
Regular contributors write up original analysis, commentary, or education on global health topics for our blog once a month. Regular contributors will also help with the publishing of the quarterly section newsletter, Section Connection, and help to regularly maintain the IH website by posting relevant section news, events, webinars, workshops, etc. We do not accept applications from contributors wanting to promote a specific product, brand, or organization.
4+ hours per month, 6 month minimum commitment.
